Built to be worn

made to waste less

Sustainability, minus the spin

Bad Object is a small brand. We keep sustainability simple: fewer things made, better things made, and clearer facts. Most of our garments use Stanley/Stella blanks, chosen for their certified materials and public reporting.

1) The biggest lever: made to order

  • Printed only when you buy, so we avoid the classic fashion problem of overproduction and unsold stock.
  • Small-batch by design, because we would rather be accurate and consistent than loud and wasteful.

Made-to-order does mean your item is produced after checkout, so delivery can be a little slower than warehouse fast fashion. The trade-off is less waste.

2) Better blanks: Stanley/Stella (most products)

Our core garments are primarily from Stanley/Stella, a blank supplier that publishes a charter, certifications, and sustainability reporting. Their sustainability framework is outlined in their Charter and Sustainability hub.

Materials and chemical safety

  • Organic cotton options across core tees and sweats.
  • OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification for many fabrics, which focuses on harmful substances and REACH compliance.
  • PETA-Approved Vegan options across the range.

People and working conditions

  • Fair Wear Foundation member since 2012, using third-party audits and remediation plans in factories.

3) Carbon and shipping: reduce distance where possible

We aim to produce and ship items in the most direct way available through our print partners, typically routing production closer to the customer when possible. Stanley/Stella's decarbonisation plan targets a 30% reduction in relative emissions by 2030 from a 2022 baseline, and they report progress publicly.

4) Inks, packaging, and the boring details that matter

  • Printing inks depend on the specific production partner and print method. Where available, we prefer lower-impact, water-based approaches.
  • Packaging also depends on the partner and destination. We aim to minimise packaging and avoid unnecessary plastic, but some orders may still require protective mailers.

If you want the exact packaging and print details for your destination, message us and we will tell you what applies right now.

5) Wear it longer (the most underrated sustainability move)

The cleanest product is the one you already own. If you want your print to last:

  • Wash cold, inside out
  • Skip the tumble dryer when you can
  • Do not iron directly on the print

What we will never claim

  • No fake "carbon neutral" vibes without receipts.
  • No "zero impact" promises. Clothing always has impact.
  • No pretending we control every part of the supply chain when we use partners.

Bottom line: Bad Object is built to be worn, not dumped. We choose better garments, avoid overproduction, and keep improving the parts we can actually control.
